Madeleine Hill, 18 years old, Sydney.
What have you been doing in 2018?
In 2018, I completed my Higher School Certificate and graduated from Pymble Ladies’ College. A project that I completed in 2018 was my textile HSC Major Work which was inspired by Clean Up Australia and was configured using only natural fibres. This project reflected my passion for environmental sustainability and allowed me to raise awareness for Clean Up Australia.

What has been your motivation?
I am motivated by Clean Up’s legacy to keep the Australian landscape clean and inspire people around them. I am inspired by my grandfather, Ian Kiernan’s, drive to preserve our environment.

Why is the environment important to you?
I have grown up surrounded by Australia’s beautiful environment, from its beaches to its outback and the preservation of such an extensive environment is very important to me.

Any plans for the future?
To inspire young people to take care of the environment and do their bit.
How do you feel about being a Youth Ambassador for Clean Up Australia?
I am excited to be a part of Clean Up because I think it’s a great brand with as much relevance today as when it started. It has been a great influence on Australian’s behaviour and I want it to be a relevant brand well into the future.
Why do you think Youth Ambassadors are important?
I think youth ambassadors are a valuable part of Clean Up as they allow the younger community to understand the importance of environmental protection.
