Did you know Australia holds the dubious honour of being the fourth highest food waster in the world?  And about half of what the average Australian household throws out is compostable organic material (which once in landfill, releases methane, a harmful greenhouse gas that's 25 times more powerful than carbon dioxide).

While throwing away scraps and food that’s gone off might seem harmless, it’s actually hurting your wallet as well as our planet – the Rabo Food Waste report shows that Aussies are wasting 13% of their weekly grocery shop, costing the average household $1,026 a year.

We teamed up with the Compost Revolution to offer you the chance to nurture your gardens and families for free.  All you had to do was tell us in (25 words or less) why you were keen to step up your composting game. We wanted to know if you were an old hand, ready to upgrade or a total newbie keen to start.

The two major winners, who each won a: Eco Tumbler twin chamber tumbling compost bin or a Hungry Bin high capacity continuous flow worm farm were Melanie M of Heidelberg and Cameron S of Melbourne.

The five runners up, who each won 'The Farm' worm farm with Tasmanian Oak wooden legs were:

Gabrielle T, of Westbourne Park, SA

Steve R, of North Narrabeen, NSW

Ally L, of South Brisbane, QLD

Lauren M of Midway Pt, TAS

Brad B of Telopea, NSW
