Entry Into Competition and Acceptance of Terms

By entering the competition, you acknowledge you have read and accept these terms and conditions.

These terms and conditions form an agreement between you and the Promoter and each party acknowledges they are intended to be binding.

If any provision of these conditions is unenforceable for any reason, it will be severed and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

Purpose of the Competition

The competition encourages registered Clean Up Australia Day youth site coordinators and volunteers to create a poem based around Clean Up Australia’s theme ‘Change starts with You’. This will help promote awareness of how each person can make a positive impact on the environment, as well as showing the literature abilities of students aged 12-18 within Australia.

Who can submit entries?

Participants must be registered as part of a youth or community group ("Group"), and each group must be registered on the 2019 Youth Clean Up Day website.

A Group may be either:

  • A High School group – consisting of school students who are aged 12-18 years; or
  • A Youth group - consisting of members of a youth group who are 12 years-18 years (e.g. Scouts or Girl Guides, Church Youth Fellowships)

Each Group must have a person over the age of 18 as its designated group coordinator ("Coordinator"). The Coordinator is responsible for completing all competition documents (including entry forms) and communicating with us.

If a Group does not have a Coordinator, then they will not be able to participate in the competition.

Groups may include supervisors, organisers and other officials who are directly associated with a Group's high school or youth group (as the case may be).

It is a Groups' responsibility to obtain any consents and permissions required from their school or youth group, and from any parents or guardians of the individuals participating in a group who are under the age of 18.

Employees of the Promoter and their immediate families cannot enter this competition.

 How to enter the competition

  1. A Coordinator registers thier Group on the Youth Clean Up Day site and obtains a Site number.
  2. A Group then creates a poem together using the theme – ‘Change Starts with You’
  3. A Group must create a video no longer than 2 minutes of the poem being performed by the Group or by one or more nominated members of the Group.
  4. Upload the video to the Clean Up Australia webpage using the submission form and quoting your Group's Site number. If the Clean Up Australia webpage unavailable an alternative location for videos to be uploaded to will be announced on the Clean Up Australia website.

All entries must be submitted before Friday 29 March 2019.

How will the winner be determined?

Entries will be reviewed and a shortlist of 8 entries will be prepared by a judging panel convened by Clean Up Australia. If your Group's entry is shortlisted, we will contact your Group Coordinator by email and telephone. A Group Coordinator will have 24 hours to respond to our contact or else we reserve the right to select another entry to shortlist.

Overall Winner

The overall competition winner will be chosen by the judging panel. Judges will assess each Group's entry based on objective criteria and determine which entry is the winner (Overall Winner).

People's Choice Winner

The 8 shortlisted entries will also be displayed on the Australian Poetry Slam (Word Travels)'s Facebook page. Members of the public may then vote as to which entry they believe should be deemed the people's choice winner (People's Choice Winner).

The People's Choice Winner may be the same as the Overall Winner of the competition.

The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process or who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms & Conditions.

The overall winning poem will be chosen by Thursday 18 April 2019.

The People's Choice winner will be voted for by the public between 11 April 2019 and 18 April 2019.

Each winner will be notified on19 April 2019.

Both winners will be announced via Clean Up Australia and Word Travels on their respective websites and social media accounts (including Facebook) on Monday 22 April 2019.

The judges' decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding either winner.

The Promoter may contact a Coordinator to verify their entry (including verifying that the Group and its members are the owner of any copyright in that entry) or that Group's details as it sees fit.

The Promoter may disqualify any entrant for any reason including where a person tampers with the entry process or who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms & Conditions.

If you are notified that you are either winner, you must respond and accept your prize within 24 hours of being notified.

If the winner does not accept their prize in this time, the Promoter may in its sole discretion determine a new winner or runner up.
