Regatta Park

Every year since 2000 Penrith Anglican College has
operated a community event for ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ on the first
Sunday in March, this year on Sunday March 3rd.

It is a wonderful family event with around 120
participants, mostly family groups, each year from the College and wider
Community.

We gather at the carpark at Regatta
Park on River Rd, Emu Plains near the Victoria Bridge (look for the College
banner) between 10am and 1pm.

All participants must register on the day with the Clean
Up Australia Day organisation (I have the forms).

Participants then collect rubbish in large bags along the
river and in the nearby parks. Later in the day, Penrith city Council brings a
truck to collect our 30+ bags of litter, shopping trolleys and building
materials gathered.

Staff do not have to take charge of students. Most
students attend with their parents, we provide the structure for it to happen,
organise equipment if needed and generally chat to parents. This is great
community engagement with both College families and other members of the
community who join our group. We are usually the largest group in the Penrith
City Council area.

Students in the Junior and Senior Schools earn John
Lambert points for their participation.

Students and carers need to wear suitable
clothing, including hats, closed in shoes and gardening gloves. They are also
encouraged to bring a water bottle and wear sunscreen. If under 15 years students
must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
